What to Expect: Results Timeline

Photobiomodulation therapy works at the cellular level, and effects build cumulatively over time. Individual results vary based on baseline condition, consistency of use, and overall health. Here's what most users report:

Days 1-7

Initial Adjustment Phase

Some users notice improved energy levels, better sleep quality, or slight mood improvements. Others may experience mild, temporary effects like slight tiredness or headaches as the brain adjusts. These typically subside within a few days.

Weeks 2-4

Early Benefits Emerge

Many users report noticeable improvements in mental clarity, focus, and processing speed. Sleep patterns may stabilize. Some report subtle improvements in motor coordination or reduced mental fog.

Weeks 4-8

Cumulative Effects Build

This is when most users experience more pronounced benefits. Enhanced cognitive function, sustained energy levels throughout the day, improved mood stability, and better stress management. For neurological conditions, functional improvements may become apparent.

Weeks 8-12

Plateau & Optimization

Benefits typically plateau as the brain reaches a new homeostatic state. Continued use helps maintain these improvements. Many users report this as their "new normal" โ€” enhanced baseline cognitive and neurological function.

Beyond 3 Months

Long-Term Maintenance

Ongoing use supports sustained neurological wellness. Some users reduce frequency to 3-4 times per week for maintenance while retaining benefits. Discontinuing use may result in gradual return to baseline over several weeks.

Remember: Photobiomodulation therapy is not a cure or treatment for any medical condition. It supports overall neurological wellness and cellular health. Results are individual and cannot be guaranteed. Always consult your healthcare provider regarding your specific health concerns.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

The helmet won't turn on

Possible solutions:

  • Ensure the battery is charged (connect to USB charger for 2-3 hours)
  • Check that the power button is being pressed firmly for 2-3 seconds
  • Verify the wireless remote has fresh batteries and is paired
  • Try a hard reset: hold power button for 10 seconds, release, then try again

If the device still won't power on, contact our support team at contact@neuro.solar

The LEDs appear very dim or invisible

This is completely normal! The NeuroSolar Helmet uses 810nm near-infrared light, which is largely invisible to the human eye. The 630nm red LEDs will glow faintly red, but the 810nm NIR light will appear very dim or completely invisible when viewed directly.

The therapeutic power is still being delivered at full strength even if you can't see bright light. If you want to verify the LEDs are working, you can use a smartphone camera โ€” NIR light often appears brighter through a digital camera sensor.

The helmet feels uncomfortable or causes pressure points
  • Adjust the head strap to a looser setting โ€” the helmet should be snug but not tight
  • Reposition the helmet slightly forward or backward on your head
  • If you have thick or dense hair, part your hair before placing the helmet to ensure LED contact
  • Take short breaks during your first few sessions while you adjust to wearing it

The LEDs need to make gentle contact with your scalp for optimal light delivery, but excessive pressure is not necessary.

I'm experiencing headaches after sessions

Mild, temporary headaches can occur during the first 1-2 weeks as your brain adjusts to photobiomodulation therapy. This is usually harmless and subsides with continued use.

Recommended actions:

  • Reduce session length to 10 minutes for a week, then gradually increase
  • Use the helmet every other day instead of daily
  • Ensure you're well-hydrated before and after sessions
  • Take a 2-3 day break, then resume at reduced frequency

If headaches persist beyond 2 weeks or become severe, discontinue use and consult your healthcare provider.

The battery drains quickly
  • Ensure you're charging with the provided cable and a quality USB power adapter (5V/2A recommended)
  • Battery performance may decrease in very cold environments โ€” use at room temperature
  • After 2-3 years of regular use, battery capacity naturally degrades โ€” this is normal for rechargeable batteries
  • Make sure the helmet is fully powered off between sessions (not just in standby mode)

If your helmet is less than 1 year old and battery life is significantly shorter than expected (less than 5 sessions per charge), contact us for warranty support.

I'm not seeing any results after 4 weeks

Individual response to photobiomodulation therapy varies significantly. Some people notice effects within days, while others may require 8-12 weeks of consistent use.

Optimization tips:

  • Ensure you're using the helmet consistently (at least 5-6 days per week)
  • Complete full 20-minute sessions
  • Adjust the helmet position to ensure good LED contact with your scalp
  • Consider keeping a simple journal to track subtle changes in energy, sleep, mood, or cognition
  • Remember that some benefits (like neuroprotection) are occurring at the cellular level and may not be immediately perceptible

If you're unsatisfied after 90 days, our money-back guarantee ensures you can return the helmet for a full refund.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does photobiomodulation work?

Photobiomodulation (PBM) uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to stimulate cellular function. When absorbed by mitochondria (the powerhouses of cells), this light energy triggers increased production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) โ€” the energy currency cells need to function optimally.

This process also reduces oxidative stress, decreases inflammation, and promotes the formation of new blood vessels. In the brain, PBM enhances neuronal energy, supports synaptic plasticity, and may help protect neurons from damage.

Can I use it if I have thin or no hair?

Yes! In fact, light penetration is slightly more efficient with less hair. The 810nm near-infrared wavelength can penetrate through hair, skin, and even skull bone to reach brain tissue, but less hair means minimal scattering. The helmet works equally well regardless of hair thickness or balding.

Will it interfere with my medications?

Photobiomodulation therapy is non-invasive and does not chemically interact with medications. However, certain photosensitizing drugs may increase skin sensitivity to light. If you're taking medications for neurological conditions, always inform your prescribing physician before adding any new therapeutic modality to your regimen.

The helmet is often used as a complementary therapy alongside conventional medical treatment, not as a replacement.

Can multiple family members share one helmet?

Yes, the helmet can be shared among family members. The adjustable head strap accommodates different head sizes. For hygienic reasons, we recommend wiping down the interior cushions with alcohol wipes or a damp cloth between users. Each person should track their own usage frequency and maintain their own consistent schedule for best results.

Is there any heat or burning sensation?

No. The LEDs are engineered to deliver therapeutic light energy without generating heat. Some users report a very subtle warmth at contact points, but this is minimal. The helmet should never feel hot or cause discomfort. If you experience burning, discontinue use immediately and contact support โ€” this may indicate a malfunction.

Can I use it more than once per day?

While daily 20-minute sessions are the standard protocol, some users experiment with twice-daily use (e.g., morning and evening). However, more is not necessarily better โ€” there's a phenomenon called "biphasic dose response" where excessive light exposure can reduce benefits. We recommend starting with once-daily use for at least 4-6 weeks before considering increased frequency. Consult a healthcare professional knowledgeable in photobiomodulation if you want to optimize a custom protocol.

What if I miss a few days of use?

No problem! Life happens. Simply resume your regular schedule when you can. Missing a few days occasionally won't negate your progress, though consistency is important for cumulative benefits. Think of it like exercise or meditation โ€” regular practice yields the best long-term results, but an occasional break won't undo everything.

How long do I need to use it?

Photobiomodulation is not a one-time treatment but an ongoing wellness practice. Many users treat it as a long-term addition to their health routine, similar to regular exercise or nutritional supplementation. Clinical research protocols typically run for 3-6 months or longer.

Most users notice that if they discontinue use after achieving benefits, effects gradually return to baseline over 2-6 weeks. Continued use helps maintain neurological wellness and cellular health over time.

Does insurance cover this device?

The NeuroSolar Helmet is classified as a wellness device and is generally not covered by health insurance. However, you may be able to use Health Savings Account (HSA) or Flexible Spending Account (FSA) funds to purchase it โ€” check with your plan administrator. Some practitioners may provide documentation to support reimbursement requests, though coverage is not guaranteed.

What is your return/refund policy?

We offer a 90-day money-back guarantee. If you're not satisfied with the NeuroSolar Helmet for any reason within 90 days of delivery, simply contact us to initiate a return. You'll receive a full refund of the purchase price (return shipping costs are your responsibility unless the return is due to a defect or our error).
